ProductCamp 2020 Session Ideas

It's that time of year again, but this year ProductCamp Seattle is a little different.  Due to COVID-19, we're looking at making PCS2020 a VIRTUAL event.  This means a few changes from the traditional unconference approach, but one of the components we're dedicated to keeping is sessions created by and for the Product Management community!

If you've got an idea for a session that you'd like to present for PCS2020, submit it here!

If you're here to see what sessions are available, review the list and vote for the ones that you want to see!

The exact date and time of PCS2020 is currently being figured out, but don't fret -- updates will be posted to the ProductCamp Seattle  website as well as Twitter , Facebook and LinkedIn !

  • PCS2020 will likely have a single track of presentations, a slight change from prior years
  • Session ideas posted here are not guaranteed a time slot on the day of the event
  • PCS2020 staff will be in touch with selected presenters in mid-September to confirm availability and content
If you have any other questions, feel free to email the PCS2020 crew at info@pmcnw.org!

This session will provide the following benefits:
    - Understand the different roles, responsibilities and specializations within product management
    - Gain insight into new areas within product management that…

  3. Products help us in our day to day lives, and as Product Managers, we go through immense journeys while building these products. The base of these products is a platform, and complexity of building platforms is multi-fold.

While building Platforms can be complex, they can be alienating boundaries, revolutionizing an industry, or simplifying how we work.

All of the above starts from a single aspect - Platform!

  7. Product is one of the most exciting—and most misunderstood—functions in technical organizations. Is it strategic or tactical? Is it a planning role or a support role? Many product professionals are unclear about what is (and isn't) their responsibility. After all, “product” spans many activities from business planning to market readiness.
In this session, we’ll discuss product activities and artifacts for that drive product strategy, planning, and growth, and introduce a simple tool that you can use in your organization to clarify the roles of product management and others. We’ll explore three roles within product (plus two that aren’t) and why…

  8. The process of Lean UX to refine product concepts works great once you find an idea that resonates with your customers, but how might you shortcut the path to finding that initial idea?

This session will share how qualitative user research can be used to understand customer motivations and key design constraints to consider when developing a new product concept.

  9. This presentation was created back in 2015 exclusively for Product Camp Seattle and shall be updated for 2020. This fast-paced and advice-filled presentation outlines many of the topmost mistakes that Product Managers make, then offers tips and advice on how to avoid them. I have presented this program several times and am happy to present again if enough votes warrant another session.

  10. More than any other factor, Pricing has the greatest impact on your product's success. Yet few companies give Pricing the attention it deserves. You're likely leaving a lot of money on the table, starving your business of the fuel it needs to grow.

Learn why pricing is far more than choosing a number, and how to:

    • Choose a pricing model that gives you a competitive advantage

  11. A lot of people think that it requires some kind of mystical top 1% product manager to ship great products. But in my experience, it takes great TEAMs to ship products and services that we admire and that achieve their objectives. The good news is that there are many best practices that enterprising product managers can do to harness the creative and focused energy of their product teams, even across complex and matrixed organizations.

In this session we can explore what makes an effective product team? What motivates them? What challenges them? What distracts them? And how can we harness…

  14. This interactive presentation will explore both the obvious and less obvious effects of the coronavirus on Product Management and design. Speed-to-market, collaboration, touchless design and many old-school human factors have suddenly been thrust to the forefront due to Covid-19. Numerous Product Management implications and examples will be presented for discussion with ample opportunity for additional, real-time crowd-sourced input.

  15. Effective, experienced product managers and product owners are crucial to make software development hum.

But effective software development - and thus effective product management - requires a symbiosis - a tight partnership of product management with product creators: the developers and testers and designers and sometimes more who craft our products.

Understanding what motivates programmers and programming teams is critical to engage and motivate teams to delight customers - and to avoid, at all cost, distracting and disheartening them.

Ron Lichty has been both a manager of product managers and a CTO, he’s been both a VP of development and…

  16. Covid-19 has fundamentally changed the way companies communicate - internally and with users. Online meetings are now the norm, but where else is video taking hold? We'll explore the industries on the verge of a sea change and how smart product managers can evaluate incorporating video experiences into their products. I'll also share lessons learned from over 50,000 live video user interviews, including considerations on data privacy, application performance, and more.

  18. We all know there's a trend for moving to the cloud, but what does this really mean? How can we as software/hardware product managers and developers keep up with this trend?

In this session I would like to cover:
    - What is Cloud Computing?
    - Why do Large Companies Care About Cloud?
    - What is a Data Center? And what do they include? Where are they?

Then, what's next, in this digital world how can we help.
